Hagia Sophia opening hours at a glance
The visitor area is listed daily from 09:00 to 19:00, with a closure on Fridays of 12:30 to 14:30. A visitor information page updated in July 2026 gives wider hours: from 08:00 in summer and from 09:00 in winter, until 19:30, with ticket sales ending at 19:00. Its text puts the Friday break at 12:00 to 14:00.
Plan with the wider window. A cautious plan is to avoid 12:00 to 14:30 on Fridays and to be through the gate before 19:00 on any day. Check the current timetable before you go.

The published times side by side
Two listings of the visitor area, as published in 2026.
| Listing | Daily hours | Friday break |
|---|---|---|
| Operator FAQ | 09:00–19:00 | 12:30–14:30 |
| Visitor information page, updated July 2026 | Summer 08:00–19:30, winter 09:00–19:30; ticket sales end 19:00 | 12:00–14:00 |
If you want a safe margin, treat 09:00 as the earliest start and 19:00 as the latest time to be at the gate. Check the current timetable before you go.

Prayer times and the visitor area
What prayer times mean for a visit.
Five daily prayers
The Diyanet publishes daily and monthly prayer times for Istanbul: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. They shift with the date, so no fixed clock times are given here.
Prayer times are not closing times
The gallery does not automatically close at every prayer. Do not apply the pauses of a prayer space to the visitor route. The Friday closure is the one break the operator lists.
Visiting during prayers →Ramadan
Check the daily prayer times for the month and the current timetable before you go. Ramadan and the festival at its end are not the same, and special holiday rules can apply on other days.
Restoration
Work on the dome and the eastern half-dome was documented in September 2026, and the visitor entrance is a temporary access. Hours do not tell you which parts of the view are covered.
What you can see →Opening hours of nearby sights
Useful when you build a day around Hagia Sophia.
| Place | Hours | Note |
|---|---|---|
| History and Experience Museum | Daily 09:00–20:00 | Ticket office until 19:00; the operator FAQ lists entry from 09:00 to 19:00 |
| Topkapı Palace | 09:00–17:30 | Ticket offices 09:00–17:00; closed on Tuesdays |
| Tram T1 at Sultanahmet | About 06:00 to 00:00 | Peak interval 2 minutes; special notices come first |
Avoid Tuesday for Topkapı and the midday window on Fridays for Hagia Sophia. More on the palace, the museum and the Old City.
